NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened a meeting on the Indus Waters Treaty on Monday to which all the officials concerned have been summoned.
According to sources, he will discuss the pros and cons of the treaty with the officials. In India there has been a growing clamour to review the treaty. Only recently, the spokesperson for the external affairs ministry said that “mutual trust and cooperation” was important for such a treaty to work.
“For any such treaty to work, it’s important that there must be mutual cooperation and trust between both the sides. It cannot be a one-sided affair,” he had said when asked if the government would review the treaty.
